Connect a Telegram bot

Telegram is the fastest channel to launch: no business verification, no review queue. You create a bot, we validate the token and register the webhook for you.

What you need

  • A Telegram account
  • A display name for the bot and a username ending in bot

Steps

    Talk to @BotFather

    Open @BotFather in Telegram and send /newbot. Give the bot a display name — this is what customers see — and a username ending in bot. BotFather replies with a token that looks like 123456789:AAE....

    Treat the token like a password. Anyone who has it can send messages as your bot.

    Paste the token into the panel

    In the panel go to "Channels" → "Add channel" → "Telegram" and paste the token. We call getMe to check that it is valid, then register the webhook automatically. There is nothing to configure on Telegram’s side.

    Polish how the bot looks (optional)

    Back in BotFather, /setdescription, /setabouttext and /setuserpic decide what a customer sees before they send the first message. Worth two minutes.

    Say hi

    Open the bot in Telegram, press "Start" and ask a real question — something a customer would ask. The answer should arrive in a couple of seconds.

What happens next

Every Telegram chat now appears in "Inbox" in the panel. The assistant answers from your knowledge base and hands the conversation to your team when a customer asks for a human or writes one of your handoff keywords. You can take over any conversation yourself from the Inbox at any time.
